How to pick out a bike helmet?

So I want to get a new bike helmet. What do you I need to look for? How did you pick yours out?

All bike helmets must meet the same Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. Selection becomes finding one that is both comfortable and affordable. Go to a well-stocked bike shop and try them all on until you find the best one for you. In my experience, Bell helmets fit those who have a head that is more round than oval. Giro is the opposite.
