Combo Hdmi

How do I connect my home entertainment system?
I have a home theater receiver, 5.1 surround, two videos, DVD Recorder, Direct TV satellite receiver / DVR Combo, widescreen TV and DVD player. My system is not in HD. Cables are better, such as DVI and HDMI really better? Thank you!
